Blog Challenge: TV Show Edition

Following in Joel’s footsteps, I thought to tackle the Blog Challenge: TV Show Edition, especially as I have watched a lot of TV shows in my time.

So, here we go, wish me luck.

What TV character from a beloved show do you wish you could be best friends with in real life?

I’m sat here staring at a blinking cursor thinking about all the myriad shows I’ve watched over the years and wonder who, out of all the shows watched, would I want to be best friends with? And it’s like, what, I can only pick one? Really, are you kidding me?

Well, of course it’s an impossible task. But … when push comes to shove it’s comes down to who would I have the most fun with and, the answer is … drum roll please …

The Doctor. Any of them, but more specifically, if I were to pick one out of all, it would be the eleventh Doctor played by Matt Smith who, out of all of them, captured my heart. Though I have to say, the latest incarnation, played by Ncuti Gatwa, is a really really close second.

I mean, can you imagine all the adventures you would have zooming around the universe with one of them in the Tardis? Priceless.

If you could binge-watch an entire series again for the first time, which one would you choose and why?

Oh, this is an easy one. Despite all the great shows I’ve watched, I would love to watch Battlestar Galactic (2004 edition) with fresh eyes. I absolutely loved this one despite the shitty asinine copout ending.

In fact, now that I mention it, I feel a rewatch coming on.

I would also love to watch The Mandalorian and maybe, Xena again, with fresh eyes. Both great shows that hit all the right notes. I love scifi and fantasy series like these where you feel like a part of the action and storylines, getting caught up in the characters and events.

Two of my all-time fav shows.

Name a TV show that changed your perspective on the world or taught you something valuable.

Hmm, this question is a little more difficult than the first two given a lot of shows have had an impact on me and my life, at different times in my life, and for different reasons. Again, how do you single out one show, and how it had any lasting effect on your perspective?

If I were to dig deep, I would say maybe classic Star Trek with Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley? While I remember and have a fond memory of the original Doctor Who, I don’t remember it, or any other show during my childhood making me sit up and think quite like classic Trek did.

So, yes, I would have to go with this one being the first to make me realise I could dream of different life and, who knows, maybe even become an astronaut. Yes, dear reader, I once had a dream of going into space … but not atop an Atlas rocket, or in Soyuz, but the Enterprise? Oh yeah, you bet your ass, I did.

Uhura, open all hailing frequencies.

Final thoughts.

To many to write in a blog post. But needless to say, there have been many shows watched, and many characters I’ve wished I could be friends with, never mind, the shows that effected me on various levels throughout my life.

But out of all of them, maybe none quite like the way Doctor Who, Classic Trek, and Battlestar Galactica did. [Do you see a theme here? All my fav shows are science fiction. Why? Because they offer all sorts of unimaginable possibilities most shows don’t.]

Now the fun part, if you haven’t already done so, why not join in, answer these question, and post the results on your blog. Go on, you know you want to.
