Week Notes

Week notes for May 26 – June 01, 2025

Things last week

I won’t go on about the continued shitty weather, as anyone who reads my rants rambling posts on Mastodon knows, the weather has been awful for weeks now. So let’s move along, nothing else to see here …

Last week saw me sort of resurrect the Snap Happy Me name over on my micro blog account (as the account has been dormant since Christmas). So now, I’m back using it to post my photos.

Also, R Scott Jones alerted me to the fact Micro Blog is hosting June 2025 Photo Challenge again, this year. So go check it out and join in.

This weekend I also started collecting links to various blogs and posts for #Junited 2025. Check it out: Junited2025

Oh, and before I forget, happy pride month to everyone who celebrates. Be safe out there people, and enjoy the month long party!

Week Notes

Week notes for May 19 – 25, 2025

Things last week

It’s scary to stop and think about it but, we’re already in the last week of May, that’s five months of the year almost up. I can’t believe it’s June next Sunday.

Stuff

This Wednesday our new mobile AC unit finally arrived right in the middle of yet another week of almost solid rain. I mean, how much rain can you get and still stay afloat? We’ve had that much rain that a huge sinkhole opened up in a small place called Sainte Monique, up north from us. And I mean, HUGE. It was 300 plus feet across and swallowed a house and shed, whole.

Lucky for all concerned, no one was injured, or worse, killed. Somehow I don’t think anyone’s going to be filling in the hole any time soon.

Travel

Everything is now finalised for our July trip to Montreal. The OH finished booking all the side attractions we hope to be seeing, while there. I’m just hoping the weather is going to be kind to us but, in case of any eventuality, I’ll be packing for rainy weather.

Health

Somehow, even after not even trying as I haven’t managed to get nearly as many walks in, this month, as I did last month, I’ve still managed to loose weight. Again. I’m hoping it’s just my recent activity and not something nefarious or some underlying problem, I have enough of those already. Annoying thing is, I no longer have a family doctor and, probably won’t have one for the foreseeable future at the rate the province is going, never mind here, in Quebec City, with a lack of doctors.

Entertainment

We’ve been on a nonstop binge watch of The Crown racing through episodes like our lives depended on it. While I enjoyed the young Queen in the first two seasons, most of those episodes were stuff I already knew. And it all became a blur by the end. So that it was a relief to see a change of guard, as it were, with new faces kicking off seasons 3 through 4.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed these two seasons and that’s all down to the writing and, more importantly, the acting of four of the principals. The four actresses playing the Queen Mother, Queen, Margaret and, of course, the wonderfully sarcastic Anne. I savoured all the scenes showing any combination of these four as their wit and humour were the best parts of the entire show.

I can’t say I enjoyed much of season 5, which couldn’t end fast enough for me. Season 6, however, hit me the hardest. Those episodes difficult on an emotional level, especially when I read that the Queen passed away while they were filming the episode of Margaret’s death. I was bawling my eyes out by the end of the series. And loved the way we see the Queen leave the picture, as it were, in the final frames of the last episode. Very poignant and moving and a fitting end to the whole series.

Andor is up next, which means, subscribing to Disney.

And you, what have you been up to this last week?

Week notes for May 5 – 11, 2025

Things last week

What happened this week? Eh, do you know what, I have no idea. No, really, I feel like these days one week just blurs into the next. Talk about the banality of my life these days. We are yet to experience spring here, what with the weather still being all over the place. So I haven’t begun my trips out to do my usual spring visit to all the parks. And so, I feel like I’m going stir-crazy indoors walking like a hamster, round and round in circles, endlessly getting nowhere.

You’d think I’d be thin by now. Ha! Nope, like any good hamster worth her salt, I’m soft, round and still plump enough to be cuddly. But that’s not what you came here to read about.

I’m over half way through reading A Death In Diamonds by SJ Bennett, book three in the the QEII mystery novels but, for some reason, have found this one heavy going compared to the previous three, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

A Week in Review

Mon 3 — Sun 9, Feb

Or, that was the week that was and, thank the small dog it’s finished, in the past, gone though sadly, never to be forgotten. Well, at least for the next 12 hours at least. I’m on day eight (8) read that, DAY EIGHT of battling the flu. The OH is on on day 10 (can you believe that?) I mean, really? Either my flu shot from last year has saved me from an apocalypse or, wasn’t really effective in the particular strain of flu me and mine caught.

Who knows. I am just hoping that things will slowly improve this week.

The thing is, you would think that with all this couch time I would have finished the book I stated a couple of weeks ago or, at the very least, watched a few decent programs. Not so. The book lies languishing on the coffee table, unmoved by my drama, while the TV has ben mostly off (would you believe) as I haven’t been able to concentrate much.

I can’t even say there’s a silver lining to all this lounging around. Like, catching up on some much needed sleep. No such luck. Nose drip and a hacking cough, sore throat, and a constant headache have not helped the cause. I feel sleep deprived so much so, I doubt I could catchup even if I slept for the next 20 years. Even if I had another 20 years to spare, that is.

I did, however, get to watch a lot of tennis this last week and watched a couple of docu-series over on Netflix as well. I love me a good documentary.

Watched:

  • Live to 100: Blue Zones
  • Chef’s Table (season 7)
  • Chef’s Table: Noodles edition
  • A Matter of Faith
  • Spellbound (movie) ★★★★☆

The animated movie, Spellbound, was a nice change of pace and had me laughing.

Somewhere in all this I also signed up to do not one but two photo challenges. I started LazyBear’s the 100 Pics (#100pics) and looking forward to tackling Hiro’s Composition Challenge which starts Feb 17th. If you love a good challenge go and sign up, go on, do it now.

Oh, and there was that thing, you know, that Thing this weekend. Something the Yanks love to call the Super Bowl, though, the rest of the world isn’t invited to play, but that aside, it seems the favoured team, Kansas City Chiefs lost BIG TIME (to the sound of raucous cheers) to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Yay, go Eagles.

And that, as they say, was the week that was.
